St. Patrick's Day
42St. Patrick's Day
March 17th...St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day is a day that honors the Christian Saint Patrick of Ireland. People all over the world celebrate this saints day, but do they know why St. Patrick is so honored?
Patrick was a 16-year-old Welsh boy who was kidnapped by Irish marauders. He spent six years in servitude as a shepherd in Ireland where he experienced a religious awakening. Then went on many years studying in a monastery. There he worked on converting his countrymen to Christianity.
He was successful at founding schools and churches and performing baptisms. The shamrock clover became his teaching tool to explain the Holy Trinity.
The Truth Behind The Snakes
There are stories about Patrick delivering a sermon on a hilltop and thereby banishing the country's snakes. This is probably the most popular of the t. Patrick's Day myths. Unfortunatley it is not true. Ireland at that time, had no native snakes.
Why We Where Green
Actually the color of St. Patrick is blue. Somehow it has gotten contorted throughout the years into green. The most logical reason is that green is associated with Ireland
